Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect during my first massage?
We will start by going over your intake form and address your goals and questions for your session.
I will exit the space in order for you to undress to your comfort level in private. While you are getting settled on the massage table, I will wash my hands. I will play soothing music in the background. We will begin the massage with your permission.
After the massage I will exit the space to wash my hands, while you get dressed. I will do a closing check-in to go over how you are feeling. I will give you suggestions for a movement and/or stretch to practice in-between your next massage.
What do I wear during the massage?
You will undress to your level of comfort. For a full body massage, most people fully undress. You may choose to leave underwear on. I will give you privacy to undress, and you will be professionally draped with a sheet at all times.
What do I do during the massage?
The goal is to have you as relaxed as possible. You are welcome to move if a position is uncomfortable. I will check in with you during the massage to ensure you like the pressure I am using and adjust your position on the table as needed for maximum comfort. Your feedback is encouraged, I like to keep communication open at all times. Most people will close their eyes and focus on their breath. I will encourage you to do whatever feels natural and most comfortable for you.
What if I experience an emotional release during our session?
The full range of human emotions can be stored in our physical body. Each emotion we experience has the potential to activate specific areas of our bodies. An example of this could be someone who experiences tightness of the shoulders. The shoulders are related to the hypothetical “weight” that we bear. If we are feeling a sense of burden in our life, our shoulders can physically signal this to us, through tension or tightness. If the emotional body is repressed, one may experience more pain in the related physical area .
While I am working on you, it is completely normal and welcome for you to feel into your body and freely express the emotions you feel coming up. This may present as an outburst of laughter, crying, yelling, sighing, etc. I have been trained to support you during your release- whatever that may look like to you. The most important thing to remember is that you are in control, if you feel like diving deeper we can. I will listen and hold space for what you need.
How long can I expect the entire appointment to be?
If you book a 90-minute massage, you will have a full 90-minutes of massage on the table. I will keep track of the start and end times. Opening and closing check-ins are typically 5-10 minutes.
How can I expect to feel after my massage?
Most people experience deep relaxation. You may feel drowsy or get a burst of energy. You may experience a heightened sense of awareness, and relief from previous areas of pain. It is important to stay hydrated before and after your massage. I encourage my clients to rest after receiving a massage in order to feel the full effects.
How often should I get a massage?
Generally it takes about 48 hours for the body to rebalance after a deep massage. I see some of my clients once a week and others once a month. After your first massage I can recommend a frequency and duration that works best for your needs.
